A large bear Monday was hit with a tranquilizer near the Mission College campus after a brief scare for students and residents near campus, The Los Angeles Times reported.

The bear was first spotted at about 8 p.m. by sheriff’s deputies patrolling the school. The bear, at one point, exited the campus and ended up in the backyard of a nearby resident.

Authorities from the LAPD and Animal Services eventually closed in on the wayward bear and the game warden eventually shot the bear with a tranquilizer, The Times reported. The bear was eventually released into the nearby mountains.
