An appeals court has ordered a new trial for a man sentenced to life in prison in the February 2012 deaths of two Detroit-area women who were abducted, killed and buried in a park.

The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/1g7GreS ) the Michigan Court of Appeals said in opinion released Tuesday that the jury for Brandon Cain wasn't properly sworn in. Lawyers say a clerk read an oath for prospective jurors instead of one for jurors.

The Wayne County prosecutor's office says it plans to appeal.

Hamtramck residents Abreeya Brown and Ashley Conaway were stuffed in a car trunk at gunpoint before being killed. Police believe they were targeted for informing authorities about an earlier shooting.

Cain was convicted of first-degree murder and other charges. Four others were sentenced in the case.
