Four people are in custody following a home invasion robbery in Bellmore, on Long Island.

The robbery sent six people to the hospital and prompted the lockdown of about two dozen schools. The lockdowns ended after the suspects were caught in various locations on the south shore of Nassau County.

Police spokesman Lt. Kevin Smith says officers fired shots at some of the fleeing suspects. One suspect was shot in the leg.

Six people, including three in the home and two of the suspects, were taken to a nearby hospital. Another was a police officer who injured an ankle.

The incident took place at about 9 a.m. Monday.

Smith said one suspect had a handgun and three others had knives. It was not clear if anything was stolen.
