ATHENS, Tenn. – Three people have died in a shooting inside a factory in East Tennessee.
Athens Police Chief Charles Ziegler said it's believed the shooter is among the three people and that it appears he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Thursday. He said the man was apparently using a semi-automatic pistol, but he didn't know the caliber or brand.
Ziegler said the shooter was an employee of the Thomas and Betts plant, which he said is a steel fabrication facility.
Law enforcement was called to the plant just after 4 p.m.
Ziegler said law officers hadn't done any investigating inside the plant yet and would be there through the night.
Identities of the dead weren't released. Ziegler said to his knowledge, no one else was injured.
