MINNEAPOLIS – Some new charges have been filed in the case against seven Minnesota men accused of plotting to go to Syria to join the Islamic State group.
All the men already are charged with conspiracy to provide material support to the terrorist group. An indictment unsealed Tuesday now charges two of them with financial aid fraud.
The indictment alleges that Hamza Naj Ahmed and Hanad Musse used federal financial aid to purchase plane tickets. Authorities say they were part of a group that took a bus from Minneapolis to New York last November. The FBI stopped them at JFK Airport before they went overseas.
Also Tuesday, one man who was arrested in San Diego last month appeared in Minneapolis federal court. Abdirahman Daud will stay in custody pending a detention hearing.
