TRUCKS: Back To Business At Charlotte

They’re back.

After an absence of almost a month, the drivers of the Camping World Truck Series buckle in again this weekend.

The North Carolina Education Lottery 200 is scheduled Friday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. SPEED will provide coverage of Truck practice (10:30 a.m. ET), qualifying (4 p.m.) and racing (7:30 p.m.) Friday.

A pair of practice sessions is scheduled at CMS Thursday.

The Truck series has been idle since an April 20 race at Kansas Speedway, but action is picking up with events scheduled in three of the next four weeks.

ThorSport Racing driver Matt Crafton leads the series in points after four races. Tied for second, 13 behind Crafton, are his teammate, Johnny Sauter, and Jeb Burton.

Sauter lost the point lead in NASCAR inspection. He was penalized 25 points, thus falling behind Crafton, after inspection during the Kansas Speedway weekend revealed that the team was using an unapproved fuel cell.

Following the top three in points are Ryan Blaney and Ty Dillon.

In the second five are defending champion James Buescher, Brendan Gaughan, Darrell Wallace Jr., Joey Coulter and Dakoda Armstrong.

Crafton is a former CMS winner. His top competition for a repeat might come from Sprint Cup regulars Brad Keselowski and Kyle Busch.

Keselowski finished second to Justin Lofton at CMS last year, losing first on the race’s final restart. Keselowski is attempting to join his father, Bob, as a winner in the Truck series. He has finished second three times in Truck races.

Busch also is a former Truck winner at CMS. He, Crafton and Ron Hornaday Jr. have won seven of the past eight Charlotte races.
