Bronx, NY – New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in his first game action in more than three weeks during Monday's 10-2 win over the Boston Red Sox.
Teixeira, who hadn't played since aggravating a previous left calf strain at Baltimore on Sept. 8, deposited a Clay Buchholz pitch into the right-field seats in his second at-bat of the night during the second inning. The switch- hitting slugger also drew a walk in four plate appearances.
The two-time All-Star had also missed 10 games with the same injury, which he initially sustained in an Aug. 27 matchup against Toronto, before returning against the Orioles.
Teixeira is now batting .256 with 24 homers and 83 runs batted in over 121 games this season for the Yankees, who moved into sole possession of first place in the AL East with two games left in the regular season following Monday's win and Baltimore's loss at Tampa Bay.
