Suarez brace helps Levante down Espanyol

Ruben Suarez recorded a brace with a pair 1 win over Espanyol in La Liga action on Sunday.

Suarez scored from the spot in the 14th and 58th minutes for his first goals of the season. Hector Moreno pulled a goal back for Espanyol in the 73rd minute, but it was canceled out by Barkero three minutes later.

Espanyol played much of the second half at a disadvantage, as Jordi Amat was sent off in the 57th minute. They went down to nine men in the 81st when Walter Pandiani was issued a red card as well.

Levante moves into a tie for second place with Barcelona and Sevilla, as all three teams have accumulated 11 points through five matches. Espanyol sits in tenth place with six points.

Mallorca 2, Real Sociedad 1

Mallorca, Spain - Gonzalo Castro notched a second-half winner to help Mallorca claim three points against Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Imanol Agirretxe put Sociedad in front in the 15th minute, but Victor equalized five minutes later for Mallorca. Castro provided the go-ahead goal in the 50th minute with an assist from Chico.

It is the second win of the season for Mallorca, which has six points on the season. Real Sociedad has seven points from its opening five games.

Granada 1, Osasuna 1

Granada, Spain - A second-half goal from Fran Rico helped Granada claim a point at home, as it played to a 1-1 draw against Osasuna on Sunday.

Raul Garcia put Osasuna in front with a goal in the 29th minute, but Rico equalized in the 64th minute to see both sides split the points.

It is the third draw of the season for Osasuna, which has six points on the year. Granada has managed just four points from its first five matches.

Sporting Gijon 0, Racing 0

Gijon, Spain - After starting its La Liga campaign with four straight losses, Sporting Gijon recorded its first point of the season, holding on for a 0-0 draw against Racing on Sunday.

Racing held the edge in shots on goal, but failed to convert any of its chances.

Sporting Gijon remains bottom of the table with just one point on the season, while Racing has three points but is still without a win.

Real Zaragoza 0, Malaga 0

Aragon, Spain - Malaga's three-game winning streak was snapped on Sunday, as it played to a 0-0 draw with Real Zaragoza.

With a win, Malaga would have climbed into a tie for first place in the La Liga table, but it was held for its first draw of the season.

Though tied on 10 points, Malaga moves ahead of Valencia in the table on goal differential. Real Zaragoza has claimed five points from its five league games.
