RBNY signs Australia international Carney

Red Bull New York announced Thursday that the club has signed defender/midfielder David Carney. The Australia international will be added to New York's roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate and passing a team physical.

"David is an experienced international player, who can play on the left side both as a defender and a midfielder, and he provides us much needed cover," said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. "He is versatile and athletic and has competed at a high level. We are pleased to bring David to New York and look forward to his contribution as a member of the Red Bulls."

Carney began his career with Everton of the English Premier League where he competed in the academy and reserve teams. He most recently played for Uzbekistan's FC Bunyodkor but has enjoyed stints with Sydney FC, Sheffield United, Norwich City, FC Twente and Blackpool along the way.

The 29-year-old has earned 46 caps for Australia and scored six goals.
