New York Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia was placed on the 15-day disabled list Sunday due to a bone spur in his right elbow.

Mejia left Saturday's contest against the San Diego Padres after experiencing discomfort in his pitching elbow. The pain seemed to arise after Mejia made a pitch to Logan Forsythe to start the fourth inning. He allowed a run on four hits and had five strikeouts before exiting.

The 23-year-old right-hander is 1-2 with a 2.30 ERA in five starts this season.

Mejia had Tommy John surgery on the same elbow back in 2011.

Greg Burke was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas to take Mejia's spot on the roster. He is 0-2 with a 4.66 ERA in 28 appearances for the Mets. This will be his fourth stint with the team this season.
