SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Alan Gordon scored in the fourth minute of second-half injury time, giving the San Jose Earthquakes a 1-1 tie against Mexico's Toluca on Tuesday night in the first leg of their quarterfinal matchup in the CONCACAF Champions League.
Raul Nava scored in the 67th minute for Toluca, which hosts the second leg of the total-goals series on March 19.
Gordon scored from Shea Salinas' free kick on a header that bounced past diving goalkeeper Alfredo Talavera and ricocheted in off the far post. The final whistle blew after the kickoff.
Nava put Toluca ahead with a volley that dipped and left goalkeeper Jon Busch no chance.
