Longtime North Carolina coach Elmar Bolowich (BOWL-o-vich) is leaving to become coach at Creighton.

Bolowich led the Tar Heels for 22 seasons, making it to 15 NCAA tournament appearances and the 2001 national title.

Bolowich said Wednesday that Creighton athletic director Bruce Rasmussen made an offer he couldn't refuse because he's willing to provide the resources to make Creighton a national power.

Bolowich is the winningest coach in North Carolina men's soccer history, posting a 280-144-40 record.

His 2008 team finished as national runner-up, while the 2009 and 2010 teams fell in the national semifinals.

Creighton was 13-5-2 last season and went to the NCAA tournament for the 18th time in 19 years.
