NEWARK, N.J. – Reserve Alex Montgomery scored a career-high 21 points to help rally the New York Liberty from a 14-point deficit and defeat the Washington Mystics 93-88 on Tuesday.
Cappie Pondexter also had 21 to lead the Liberty (10-12), who trailed 79-65 to open the fourth quarter. Kara Braxton, who scored 16 points, gave New York the lead for good with a layup at 85-84 with 2:43 left.
The Liberty moved ahead of Washington into fourth place in the Eastern Conference and snapped a three-game home losing streak.
Crystal Langhorne scored a game-high 24 points and had 10 rebounds for the Mystics (9-13), while Matee Ajavon added 13 points.
The Mystics finished the third quarter on a 14-3 run to take the 14-point lead into the final period.
Washington lost for the fourth straight game, including an 88-78 home loss to the Liberty on July 31.
