DHS says Border Patrol agent shot suspected Tren de Aragua associates after attack in Portland

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said Thursday that a Border Patrol agent in Portland, Oregon, fired his weapon after two suspected Tren de Aragua gang associates allegedly used a vehicle as a weapon during an arrest attempt on Jan. 8.

Officials said the Border Patrol agent took “immediate action to defend himself and others,” shooting both suspects. DHS said no law enforcement officers were injured.

The suspects fled the scene and later drove nearly five miles to an apartment complex, where they called emergency medical services. One suspect, Luis David Nino-Moncada, suffered an arm injury and is now in FBI custody.

The second suspect, Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras, was shot in the chest. DHS clarified that the two are not married.

“DHS law enforcement is facing an unprecedented 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks,” said Tricia McLaughlin, adding that assaults and threats against federal officers have surged nationwide.

DHS said both suspects are Venezuelan nationals who entered the U.S. illegally under the Biden administration and are associated with the Tren de Aragua gang. Officials said the investigation remains ongoing.

Anti-ICE agitators threaten agents in chaotic Minnesota protests: ‘You're going to f---ing die'

Anti-ICE agitators have erupted en masse in Minneapolis following the fatal shooting of a protester who the Trump administration says tried to run over an agent.

Video of the chaotic scenes unfolding in Minneapolis shows agitators harassing federal agents, with some throwing snowballs at them and some shouting phrases such as "We’re going to f---ing kill you" and "I hope you suffer."

One video shows several federal vehicles driving down a Minneapolis street surrounded by protesters on either side of them. Many of the protesters can be seen lobbing snowballs at the vehicles while the crowd chants, "ICE out now."

In another video, reposted by the White House’s official rapid response X account, a protester outside the Bishop Henry Whipple Federal Building can be seen confronting a law enforcement vehicle, shouting, "We’re going to f---ing find you, and we’re going to f---ing kill you! You’re going to f---ing die, b--ch!"

The White House referred to these individuals as "left-wing agitators."

Another video posted on X shows a protester telling U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commander Gregory Bovino, "I hope you suffer, I hope you suffer a long, terrible death."

In response, Bovino informs the protester that federal law enforcement is conducting "Title 8 enforcement, ma’am."

Title 8 enforcement involves civil immigration arrests of illegal aliens without criminal offenses.

Other videos show protesters cursing federal officials. In one instance, a protester whacks an official with a sign as he shoves a protester back. The protester is then grabbed by several officers and taken to the ground.

Border Patrol agent hugs protester in heartwarming moment caught on video during Minnesota operation

A hug shared between a Border Patrol agent and a protester showed a heartwarming moment of humanity in Minnesota as clashes over immigration enforcement rattle the U.S.

A conversation between a Border Patrol agent in full gear and an anti-immigration enforcement protester was caught on video Thursday, giving insight into federal agents' demeanor as they provide security amid rising tensions nationwide.

Speaking to the female protester, who was carrying a bullhorn and gas mask, the agent sought common ground over their shared experience of U.S. military service.

"You signed [up] to become a soldier, right," the agent asked the woman. "The purpose of the soldier is to go to war. This mission is different [with Border Patrol]. I understand, because I was in the Air Force, and I was an airman."

"Not the Air Force. They're fly boys," she quipped. "If you'd been a Marine, I would have brought you some crayons. No, listen…"

"I love you," he interjected as the pair laughed about her military jest.

"I want to hug you.""You can't do that," the woman said, looking over to the other agents.

"Oh, I could," the agent said, adding he would not mind.

"I would let you," she responded. "You can hug me. I would embrace it if you would hug me."

"I will," he said. "Come over."

The agent walked out of his line of formation toward the woman and hugged her as she smiled.

"We have a heart, you know what I mean," the agent said.

Minneapolis council member says city exploring ways to end ICE activity after fatal shooting

Minneapolis City Council member Elizabeth Shaffer said city leadership is exploring every possible avenue to end Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity in Minneapolis following the fatal shooting of a woman by an ICE agent earlier this week.

In a newsletter shared with constituents, Shaffer said officials are looking at options “from every possible angle” and are reaching out to state and federal partners for assistance in addressing what she described as an “unprecedented situation.”

“We’re actively reaching out to all of our state and federal allies for help,” Shaffer wrote, according to her newsletter.

The comment comes amid heightened tensions in the city after the shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, on Wednesday during an enforcement operation.

Federal authorities have described the incident as an act of self-defense by the ICE agent; local officials, including Democrat Mayor Jacob Frey, have questioned that account and called for ICE to leave the city.

JD Vance blasts media coverage of ICE shooting, says officer acted 'in self-defense'

Vice President JD Vance forcefully pushed back Friday against media claims surrounding the fatal ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis, accusing critics of spreading falsehoods about what occurred.

“These people are incapable of not lying about this,” Vance wrote on X, responding to a post alleging the officer fired through a side window. Vance said photos of the vehicle show bullet holes indicating the shots came from the front of the car, where the officer was standing when he was struck.

“He is allowed to discharge his weapon in self-defense,” Vance added.

In a separate post, the vice president condemned coverage he said misrepresented the incident, calling it “disgusting” and accusing the press of lying about an “innocent law enforcement officer.”

Federal officials have said the officer fired after being hit by a vehicle during an enforcement operation. The shooting remains under investigation.

Minneapolis school confirms parent of student was killed in ICE-involved shooting

Southside Family Charter School in Minneapolis confirmed Friday that the parent of one of its students was killed Wednesday during an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation in the city.

In a statement, the school expressed its “deepest condolences to the student, their family and loved ones during this profoundly difficult time” and said its community is focused on supporting students while respecting their privacy.

The school noted that counselors and support staff are available to assist those impacted by the tragedy and said it would not be sharing additional information at this time.

Southside Family Charter School also clarified that it has not provided any ICE-related training to members of its school community, countering claims circulating on social media.

The confirmation comes in the wake of the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, a Minneapolis mother of three who was killed by an ICE agent earlier this week.

Dem narrative challenged after DHS exposes identity of 'married couple' in CBP-related shooting

As new protests erupt and Democrats express outrage over another shooting involving an immigration agent in Portland, the Department of Homeland Security is setting the record straight on the two victims’ suspected gang affiliation.

In a Friday X post, DHS said that the two victims, Luis David Nico Moncada and Yorlenys Betzabeth Zambrano-Contreras, are Venezuelan criminal illegal aliens and suspected members of the foreign terrorist organization Tren de Aragua.

According to the agency, Moncada and Zambrano-Contreras were shot by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent after the two attempted to run him and others over with their vehicle.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:19 p.m. local time, when Border Patrol agents stopped a vehicle and identified themselves as law enforcement, DHS has said.

"Yesterday, two suspected Tren de Aragua gang associates—let loose on American streets by Joe Biden—weaponized their vehicle against Border Patrol in Portland," DHS wrote, explaining that "the agent took immediate action to defend himself and others, shooting them."

Both individuals fled the scene and were later found by Portland Police and administered first aid and taken to a hospital.

According to DHS, Moncada, who was driving the vehicle, entered the U.S. illegally in 2022 and was released into the country by the Biden administration. In addition to his suspected Tren de Aragua affiliation, Moncada has been previously arrested for driving under the influence and unauthorized use of a vehicle, per DHS. He has a final order of removal.

Zambrano-Contreras, the passenger, also entered the U.S. illegally in the El Paso area in 2023. DHS said she was released into the country by the Biden administration. The agency said that Zambrano-Contreras has "played an active role in a Tren de Aragua prostitution ring" and was previously involved in a shooting in Portland.

DHS called reporting that the two injured were a married couple "REVOLTING LIES," writing in a separate X post that "the two criminal illegal aliens who attacked Border Patrol in Portland are a gang member and his prostitute NOT an innocent ‘married couple.’"

DHS sending 1,000 more Border Patrol, CBP agents to Minneapolis amid ICE shooting fallout

Multiple Department of Homeland Security (DHS) sources, including officials on the ground in Minneapolis, tell Fox News that roughly 1,000 additional Border Patrol and Customs and Border Protection agents are being deployed to the city.

The timing of the agents’ arrival could be very soon, according to the sources.

Approximately 2,000 immigration agents are already on the ground in Minneapolis following the ICE-involved shooting earlier this week.

Border Patrol officials told Fox News that the influx of additional personnel will allow Homeland Security Investigations investigators to shift focus and probe an ongoing fraud scandal, rather than being tied up with operational security and enforcement duties.

The deployment comes as federal authorities continue to investigate the shooting and as protests and heightened tensions continue in the area.

DHS has not yet publicly announced the deployment.

Trump weighs in on Minnesota ICE shooting, calls Renee Nicole Good a ‘professional troublemaker’

President Donald Trump responded Friday to questions about the fatal ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis that killed Renee Nicole Good, suggesting she acted as an “agitator” and downplaying Vice President JD Vance’s earlier comments about a broader left-wing network.

When asked whether there was any organized group behind the incident by Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy, Trump said he hadn’t seen the vice president’s statement but called the situation unusual.

“I watched that yesterday, and there are a lot of lot of different forms to it, but there was a woman screaming ‘shame, shame, shame,’” Trump said. “She was an agitator, probably a paid agitator. But in my opinion, she was an agitator, a very high level agitator. So professional she wouldn’t stop screaming.”

Trump went on to say the video showed behavior he described as “not normal,” and defended law enforcement broadly.

“You have agitators and we will always be protecting ICE, and we’re always going to be protecting our Border Patrol and our law enforcement,” he said.

Good, 37, was fatally shot by an ICE agent during a federal enforcement operation on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis.

Masked agitator tells Laura Ingraham she’s 'getting paid right now' at anti-ICE protest

A tense exchange during anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis took an unexpected turn when a demonstrator said that she was being paid to be there.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham was on the ground in Minneapolis as demonstrations erupted nationwide after a woman was killed during a confrontation with federal agents.

"Do you have a job?" Ingraham asked a masked protester outside the Whipple Federal Building.

"I’m [getting] paid right now," replied the woman, though it was unclear if she was serious.

Before the exchange, the woman had been walking through the crowd shouting, "Shame" and profanity. When Ingraham asked why her face was covered, the woman said it was because her "nose is cold."

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Minneapolis and in other cities after a woman was shot and killed during a confrontation with federal agents. The Department of Homeland Security said Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed after she attempted to "weaponize her vehicle" to hit law enforcement agents.

Minnesota officials have disputed that account, claiming the woman did not pose a threat and calling for an investigation.

Ingraham later said that while some demonstrators appeared peaceful, others became hostile toward the media trying to ask basic questions.

"If you actually go into the mix and try to chat with people, you end up getting escorted out. And they kind of nicely, but aggressively, escort you out across their border," she said.

Renee Nicole Good’s partner speaks out for the first time after Minneapolis ICE shooting: report

The partner of Renee Nicole Good spoke publicly for the first time after Good was fatally shot during an encounter with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis last week, according to a report by The Washington Post.

In a statement, Good’s wife said the couple had stopped on a residential street to support neighbors during an ICE operation when the confrontation unfolded.

“On Wednesday, January 7, we stopped to support our neighbors. We had whistles. They had guns,” she said, according to the Post.

Federal officials have said the ICE agent involved fired in self-defense and that the shooting remains under investigation.

Good’s partner described her as a devoted parent and community-oriented person, saying she lived by compassion and kindness.

“Renee lived this belief every day,” she said. “She is pure love. She is pure joy.”

The case has drawn national attention as Democrats and immigration advocates criticize ICE enforcement tactics, while federal officials stress officer safety and the need for a full investigation.

The Washington Post’s extensive personal profile of Good stands in contrast to its prior coverage of the killing of Georgia nursing student Laken Riley, another immigration-linked case that received different framing.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt reacts to video taken by ICE agent in Minneapolis

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt pushed back Friday against media coverage of the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis, saying that an ICE agent “properly defended himself” and accusing the media of advancing a political narrative.

In a post on X, Leavitt said media outlets smeared the ICE agent after the officer fired on Renee Nicole Good, 37, who allegedly drove a vehicle toward him.

“The media smeared an ICE Agent who properly defended himself from being run over by organized leftist protesters who were impeding an active law enforcement operation,” Leavitt wrote.

She went on to criticize news organizations more broadly, saying that intentional misrepresentation is a reason for low trust in the press and accusing outlets of pushing a Democrat Party narrative.

“That’s exactly what they did in this case in Minnesota,” she added, pointing to video she says supports the agent’s actions.

Leavitt’s comments echo broader Republican support for the ICE agent’s use of force during the incident.

Newly obtained video taken by ICE agent shows moments leading up to shooting of Renee Nicole Good

Newly released video obtained by Fox News shows the moments before Renee Nicole Good, 37, was shot by an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday.

The video, released two days after the incident, shows Good behind the wheel of a red Honda Pilot, and her partner simultaneously filming the encounter with her smartphone. The vehicle was parked in the middle of a residential street, appearing to block traffic.

"That’s fine, dude," Good can be heard saying in the video to the agent. "I’m not mad."

The shot pans away as Good allegedly attempted to ram her vehicle into the ICE agent before she was fatally shot.

Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office has received ‘hundreds' of messages demanding ICE shooting probe

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said Friday that it has received “hundreds of calls and emails” asking for them to launch an independent investigation into the ICE-involved shooting in Minneapolis.

“Our Office stands ready to assist in this investigation and we have reached out to both the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office,” it said on X. “However, as the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension correctly stated, without access to case materials, scene evidence, or investigative interviews, we are unable to do the thorough and accurate investigation necessary to meet the standards required by law and as the public would rightly expect.”

“We've spoken with sheriffs throughout our country, we all agree that an investigative process that excludes local agencies has the potential to have harmful implications nationwide,” the Sheriff’s Office also said. “We need communication and transparency between federal and local agencies as we all work for the communities we took an oath to serve and protect.”

Minnesota AG says Renee Nicole Good died ‘trying to be a legal observer’

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said Friday that Renee Nicole Good “died trying to be a legal observer to look out for the interests of the most vulnerable members of our community.”

Good was shot by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis on Wednesday. The Trump administration said she used her car to try to run over federal officers during an immigration enforcement operation.

“I just want to be perfectly clear. The precious life of Rene Nicole Good was important. She's a mother of three, including a 6-year-old child whose father passed away a few years ago,” Ellison said.

“She died trying to be a legal observer to look out for the interests of the most vulnerable members of our community. And she leaves behind a lot of people who love and admire her,” Ellison added.

Good worked as a Minneapolis-based immigration activist serving as a member of "ICE Watch," federal sources told Fox News earlier today.

Homeland Security sources told Fox News that the group aims to monitor, track, interfere and oppose ongoing federal immigration enforcement operations. The group is present in multiple sanctuary cities across the country.

Minnesota to gather own evidence in ICE shooting, says agent ‘does not have complete immunity’

Prosecutors in Minnesota announced Friday that they will start collecting their own evidence in the ICE-involved shooting, with Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty saying the officer responsible “does not have complete immunity here.”

The development comes a day after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension dropped out of the investigation, alleging it was told by the FBI it would not have full access to the case materials. The Department of Homeland Security has disputed that claim.

On Thursday, Vice President JD Vance said the ICE agent involved in the shooting “is protected by absolute immunity.”

“I can't speak to why the Trump administration is doing what it's doing or says what it says. I can say that the ICE officer does not have complete immunity here,” Moriarty said.

“We do not yet know if there will be sufficient evidence without the FBI case file to even make a charging decision. The FBI currently has, for example, Ms. Good's car, the shellcasing and witness interviews. The FBI has taken the car, and so any forensic analysis that comes from that, would not be available to us unless they were sharing that,” Moriarty said.

“So we are moving forward in collaboration with the Attorney General's Office and the BCA to preserve any evidence and ensure that it can be reviewed,” she continued.

"To that end, we are asking those in our community who have information or who have video or photos of the event to submit that information to our office. We are providing a secure link where people can submit this evidence,” she also said.

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison added, “We still know that there's evidence out there, and we want to make sure it gets gathered and collected.”

Video shows Minnesota woman's car blocking part of road before shooting

A video surfaced appearing to show a vehicle driven by Renee Nicole Good blocking part of a road on Wednesday in Minneapolis before she was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.

The surveillance footage shows a vehicle first making a stop on the side of the road. A passenger then steps out, before the vehicle turns perpendicular to the road.

Later in the clip, ICE agents can be seen approaching the vehicle.

The Trump administration said Good used her car to try to run over federal officers during an immigration enforcement operation.

Mayor denies Minneapolis 'post-apocalyptic hellscape,' blames ICE for violence: 'We are a safe city'

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey insisted Friday that his city is “safe” and is not a “post-apocalyptic hellscape.”

“I have heard countless people talk about Minneapolis -- many of them who have never been here -- is some form of post-apocalyptic hellscape. As a place that is dangerous. Well let me give you a statistic. Fifty percent of the shootings that have happened thus far in Minneapolis this year have been ICE,” Frey told reporters, days after the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.

“In other words, we've only had two shootings. One of them has been ICE. We are a safe city,” Frey added. “ICE is making it less so. We are a city of unity. But ICE is trying to divide us and tear us apart.”

Minneapolis mayor pleads for state investigators to be allowed into ICE shooting probe

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey made a plea Friday for state investigators to become involved in the investigation into the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good by an ICE agent, calling the Trump administration’s description of the events “deeply concerning.”

Frey spoke after the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension said Thursday it was withdrawing from the investigation after being told by the FBI it would not have access to the materials required for a “thorough and independent” review. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem later said, “They have not been cut out, they don’t have any jurisdiction in this investigation.”

“In Minneapolis, when a tragedy strikes, there's one word that summarizes what is most important. And that word is integrity. This is not the time to bend the rules. This is a time to follow the law. This is not a time to hide from the facts. This is a time to embrace them, making sure that we're pushing for transparency every step of the way,” Frey said Friday.

"The fact that Pam Bondi's Department of Justice and this presidential administration has already come to a conclusion about those facts is deeply concerning. The facts that from the very beginning, they're calling the victim a ‘domestic terrorist.’ They're calling the actions of the agent involved as some form of defensive posture. We know that they've already determined much of the investigation, and even if they haven't, there is the appearance that there is some conclusion drawn from the very beginning,” he continued.

"Our ask is to embrace the truth. Our ask is to include the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in this process, because we in Minneapolis want a fair investigation. Is it deeply concerning that this administration, from the very get go, is drawing the conclusion that they may ultimately come to? Of course, it is,” Frey added. “And if you got nothing to hide from, then don't hide from it. Include local experts in the process. We got nothing to hide from here. All we want in Minneapolis is justice and the truth.”

'We need ICE away from our schools, now,' Minnesota teacher union says

A Minnesota teacher's union demanded that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents stay away from schools in Minneapolis Friday following the shooting death of Renee Nicole Good.

"We need ICE out of Minneapolis now. We need ICE out of Minnesota now. We need ICE away from our schools, now,” Catina Taylor, the president of the Minneapolis Federation of Educators, Local 59, said during a news conference.

“Since arriving, ICE has been a dangerous and out-of-control force, putting every Minnesotan in danger,” she added. “A mother was murdered. An elementary school was forced to lock down. Grown men use pepper spray on terrified high school students on school property. And that was just on Wednesday. This is the opposite of protecting our kids. This is the opposite of keeping the peace. Nothing about this is okay, nothing.”

DHS public affairs assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom” that, “our law enforcement does not go into schools unless there is a public safety threat within those schools.”

“What we saw on Wednesday, which one of those educators was referring to, was there was an individual who was assaulting our law enforcement and he started a chase that went about five miles. The subject of this chase started going over barriers, he was running red lights, and eventually he took the chase onto school grounds. Our law enforcement did not go into this school and made sure to diffuse the situation.”

At least 12 arrested in Minneapolis anti-ICE protests

At least a dozen people have been taken into custody in Minneapolis during anti-ICE protests there, Fox News has confirmed.

On Friday morning, police in Minneapolis were seen dismantling a tent and working to clear other debris set up near the location where Renee Nicole Good was shot on Wednesday.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension announced that it had “reluctantly withdrawn” from the investigation into the shooting, alleging it was informed by the FBI it would no longer have access to materials required for a “thorough and independent” review.

When asked about the matter on Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem told reporters, “I'd like to know where they've been and why they're not out on the streets investigating all of these people that are harassing and inciting violence on law enforcement officers right now.

“They have not been cut out, they don’t have any jurisdiction in this investigation,” she added.

Renee Nicole Good was involved with ‘ICE Watch’ activist group, DHS sources say

Department of Homeland Security sources told Fox News that Renee Nicole Good, the 37-year-old woman who was shot and killed by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on Wednesday, was part of the “ICE Watch” effort across the city.

The sources said the group is organized to monitor, track, interfere and oppose ongoing federal immigration enforcement operations –- and is one of many such groups across Minneapolis.

The members often call themselves "legal observers,” but the sources said they are doing much more than just observing.

Before the shooting, Good had followed ICE agents around to at least two locations and used her car to block the roadway, interfering with ongoing investigations, according to Homeland Security.

Federal authorities are looking into these groups in terms of funding and training.

Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension drops out of ICE-involved shooting investigation

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) announced Thursday that it has "reluctantly withdrawn" from the investigation into the shooting of a woman by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer.

The state investigative bureau said it was informed by the FBI that it would no longer have access to materials required for a "thorough and independent" review.

Minnesota BCA Superintendent Drew Evans issued a statement on Thursday morning saying on Wednesday, "after consultation with the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the FBI, it was decided that the BCA Force Investigations Unit would conduct a joint investigation with the FBI" into the death of Renee Nicole Good during an ICE operation in south Minneapolis.

"Later that afternoon, the FBI informed the BCA that the U.S. Attorney’s Office had reversed course: the investigation would now be led solely by the FBI, and the BCA would no longer have access to the case materials, scene evidence or investigative interviews necessary to complete a thorough and independent investigation," Evans continued.

"Without complete access to the evidence, witnesses and information collected, we cannot meet the investigative standards that Minnesota law and the public demands," he added. "As a result, the BCA has reluctantly withdrawn from the investigation. The BCA Force Investigations Unit was designed to ensure consistency, accountability and public confidence, none of which can be achieved without full cooperation and jurisdictional clarity."

Fox News Digital has reached out to the FBI for comment.

Gov Walz authorizes National Guard staging following fatal ICE shooting in Minneapolis

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Thursday authorized the Minnesota National Guard to be staged and ready to support local and state law enforcement in protecting critical infrastructure and maintaining public safety after the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, 37, by an ICE agent in south Minneapolis.

Soldiers will serve in a support role, focused on protecting property, safeguarding critical infrastructure and allowing local law enforcement to remain focused on community safety and investigative responsibilities, according to a news release from the governor's office.

"Minnesotans have met this moment. Thousands of people have peacefully made their voices heard. Minnesota: Thank you. We saw powerful peace," Walz wrote in a statement. "We have every reason to believe that peace will hold.

"[Wednesday], I directed the National Guard to be ready should they be needed. They remain ready in the event they are needed to help keep the peace, ensure public safety, and allow for peaceful demonstrations."

The staging, authorized by an executive order, allows National Guard personnel on state active duty to coordinate and support public safety and security services in Minnesota.
