Shakira Announces Single With Rihanna, Her First New Track In Four Years

The wait is over for Shakira fans. The Colombian superstar announced on Twitter she will release her next single “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” a duet with fellow singer Rihanna.

“You guys ready? Jan 13 is almost here! Estan listos? El 13 de Enero se acerca/ @Rihanna #rememberforget Shak,” she tweeted on Monday about the new single.

With the tweet, Shakira posted a black-and-white image with the name of the single and two directors’ chairs showing both singers’ names.

Rihanna confirmed the collaboration by posting the same image on her Instagram and captioned it: “One. Week. Countdown.”

“Can’t Remember to Forget You” is the first musical project for “The Voice” judge since she released her seventh album “Sale el Sol” in 2010. The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer stayed away from the stage since her pregnancy of her son Milan, who was born in January 2013.

According to the Associated Press, a rep for the singer would not immediately confirm that the single would play a part of Shakira’s upcoming album, although other news outlets like Billboard reported it will.

In the latest issue of Glamour magazine, in which she graces the cover, Shakira opened up about working with the Barbadian singer.

“Working with her was utopia,” she said in the magazine out Jan. 14. “She’s the sexiest woman on the planet. And at the end of the day, we’re both just basically Caribbean girls. The chemistry was so good and so real. She taught me dance moves. She was a sweet teacher.”

Shakira also dished on her massive success.

“Success happened little by little for me. I tasted the flavor of fame in small doses: I started at 10 years old when I won a music contest; I was performing at birthday parties, company meetings,” she said. “I met with a record executive when I was 13 and sang ‘Material Girl’ to a cassette-tape boom box. I’ve shaken hands at every radio station, from Honduras to Ryan Seacrest’s.”

She continued: “One day (I realized I was famous) enough. But here’s the thing: I’m still hungry. But I’m not hungry for fame – just the need to prove to myself that I can still do this.”
