Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani get flirty on 'The Voice'
Break Time: 'The Voice' is getting interesting…
The Top 12 contestants took the stage on Monday night’s live edition of “The Voice” — but all eyes were on flirty judges Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani.
The show’s newly-official power couple almost completely upstaged 26-year-old contestant Amy Vachal of Somerset, New Jersey, who delivered a sexy, acoustic rendition of Drake’s hookup-inducing hit, “Hotline Bling.”
“I don’t think there’s ever been a more elegant, classy performance of a song about a booty call in the history of music,” Shelton joked, reminding viewers: “Gwen sang it to me on the ‘Tonight Show’…”
That made-for-YouTube moment came back in October, just days before Blake and Gwen went official with their not-so-under-the-radar relationship.
“[Your performance was] definitely better than the version we did on Fallon, for sure, 100 percent,” Stefani admitted, drawing even more attention to the tabloid-ready romance.
Pharrell Williams — who could barely control his own laughter — did his best to redirect the focus back to Vachal. “Ok, this is your moment,” he said. “Wow!”
But the evening’s most memorable performance came from frontrunner Jordan Smith of Harlan, Kentucky.
Smith, a 21-year-old college student, brought spirituality to the stage and earned a standing ovation from all four judges for his interpretation of “Great Is Thy Faithfulness.”
“Jordan, you know with coming off the weekend and the horrible things that happened over in Paris and just having a heavy heart the last few days, thank you for that,” Shelton told him. “That was beautiful.”
“Blake took the words right out of my mouth.” Smith’s coach, Adam Levine, praised. “Sometimes there’s so much about the world that can be so confusing and so sad, and then you come along and make us feel like there’s a lot of hope.”
Williams was also blown away: “Dude, you had me standing up in the middle of the song… I think everybody needs to go to iTunes right now. I don’t care about the vote. Go to iTunes right now and buy this song from this guy right now.”
