America Ferrera, A College Graduate 10 Years Later

America Ferrera is finally donning a cap and gown, ten years after she began her college career.

The former Ugly Betty actress is set receiver her bachelor's degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California on Friday.

According to the actress, the milestone has been a decade in the making.

"I'm walking in my college graduation in 3 days,” Ferrera tweeted on Tuesday.

"It's finally happening! Took me 10 years, but it feels great."

Ferrera will be graduating from USC’s Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts, and Sciences.

According to an article on the school’s website, the Latina actress started at the L.A. based school in 2002 but took a leave of absence after she was offered the starring role in ABC's Ugly Betty.

Putting her education on the back burner, the daughter of Honduran immigrants is thankful to the professors who helped her realize she could still get her degree while also pursuing her dreams.

"I always wanted to go to college and get my education, although I always wanted to be an actor," Ferrera said to her fellow students in 2012.

"I never knew how those two things would work with each other, and this was revealed to me in my first year of college here."

After her professor David Andrus said he had recommended a young girl he was mentoring watch one of Ferrera’s first films, Real Women Have Curves, she realized the importance of her rold as an actor.

"What my professor really wanted me to understand was that my passion for acting and what I loved doing in the world had the power to be a tool," Ferrera explained.

"In that moment I realized that I didn't have to give up what I love. I could find a way to link it to other things that I cared about."
