WASHINGTON – A Defense Department civilian was killed and another was injured when a rocket hit their car at Bagram Air Field in Afghanistan, a rare American death as U.S. troops withdraw from the country.
The Pentagon says that 54-year-old Krissie K. Davis of Talladega, Alabama, died Monday while working for a Defense Logistics Agency's team. The rocket was fired from outside the base.
An environmental specialist, Davis was working for DLA's disposition services unit in Afghanistan, which includes the destruction, sale or other removal of excess U.S. equipment and supplies.
A spokesman for DLA's disposition services, Kenneth MacNevin, says Davis was the first civilian member of the DLA unit killed in Afghanistan.
There are about 16,300 U.S. personnel at Bagram, including about 5,000 troops and 500 civilians.
