A University Of Illinois trustees committee has rejected a $400,000 bonus for Chancellor Phyllis Wise, who announced her resignation last week.

The move followed calls by Gov. Bruce Rauner and others to rescind the award after Wise said she would be leaving following a number of scandals, including her use of private emails to avoid public scrutiny.

The university also faces lawsuits from former athletes alleging poor treatment by coaches and staff, and a lawsuit over the decision to rescind a professor's job offer.

Wise had been hired as chancellor for five years, but is leaving a year early. The university said she worked out a retention agreement to receive $100,000 for each year worked.
