A Texas commercial airline pilot who is accused of smuggling cocaine by swallowing 62 bags of it before a flight from Colombia to Houston is now facing charges.
Stanley Rafael Hill, 49, of McKinney, has been charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, the Houston Chronicle reports.
Court documents say prior to a flight on May 24, Hill swallowed bags of cocaine, but one of them burst in his stomach after the plane landed. An arrest warrant described the amount of cocaine as being between 4 grams and 200 grams.
A source close to the investigation told Click2Houston that Hill called 911 himself after landing and obtained treatment at the Memorial Hermann Northeast Hospital in Houston. The source added that Hill was traveling as a passenger on the flight, but he was wearing his pilot’s uniform.
Hill is considered to be in custody with bail set at $500,000 and he did not attend a preliminary appearance in district court Wednesday, according to an analysis of court records by the Houston Chronicle.
Hill is a Federal Aviation Administration licensed commercial pilot, Click2Houston reports. He currently works for a regional carrier, a source told the station.
