ALABASTER, Ala. – A school security guard from Alabaster, Ala., on Tuesday admitted producing child pornography in an office at an empty Birmingham City School building.
Michael Wayne Wooten, 60, pleaded guilty during a court appearance to one count of producing child porn after he set up a studio at Dupuy Elementary School to take "modeling photographs" of girls aged as young as four between August 2009 and April 2010.
One of the victims told her parents about what had occurred which led to a search of Wooten's home, FOX affiliate WBRC-TV reported. There computers containing pornographic images of children, including his victims who were aged between four and nine, were found.
Wooten, who faces a maximum of 30 years in jail, will be sentenced May 2.
His court appearance came as a Los Angeles grade school teacher was held on bail of $2.3 million for child molestation charges laid after he allegedly took graphic photos of students in his classroom.
Third grade teacher, 61-year-old Mark Berndt, allegedly gagged and blindfolded students, put cockroaches on their faces and fed them semen.
Berndt faces 23 felony counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 and could face life in prison if convicted. He was due to be arraigned Wednesday.
