Saudi Air Force sergeant to face trial in child sex assault case in Nevada
LAS VEGAS – A Saudi Arabia air force sergeant accused of abducting and raping a 13-year-old boy on New Year's Eve is heading for trial in Nevada.
Mazen Alotaibi (MAH'-zen ah-loh-TAH'-bee) gave up his right Thursday to an evidence hearing in the case.
That meant the boy didn't have to testify.
Defense attorney Don Chairez (shar-EHZ') says there's still evidence to collect and he's trying to negotiate a resolution that avoids trial.
Prosecutors added two new lewdness charges to kidnapping, sexual assault with a minor, and other counts against the 23-year-old aircraft mechanic.
Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Bill Kephart increased bail to $1.72 million.
Alotaibi could face life in prison if he's convicted.
Chairez says his client will plead not guilty at arraignment Feb. 6.
