Ride operator fired after girl injured at New Jersey boardwalk pier

OCEAN CITY, N.J. – State officials say a ride operator has been fired after a girl was injured at Gillian's Wonderland Pier in Ocean City.

State officials say the 4-year-old was on the platform when the Speedway ride started Sunday.

The Press of Atlantic City reports Community Affairs Department spokeswoman Lisa Ryan said in a statement the incident was caused by operator error.

Officials did not release details about the extent of the child's injuries.
