A Rhode Island doctor charged with breaking and entering after walking through a stranger's home at 4 a.m. says it was "an honest mistake."

Internist Roy Main of Westerly says he was trying to make a house call to check on a patient last weekend when he was arrested.

He tells The Westerly Sun (http://bit.ly/14PxXsO ) he was looking for Bill Brower, a friend and patient who wasn't feeling well. Main agreed to drop by, and Brower said he'd leave the door unlocked.

Main says he didn't have his cellphone and wasn't sure of Brower's address. He saw a truck that looked like Brower's and went inside.

In reality, Brower's house is about a mile from the one Main entered.

Main says he understands why the homeowners "freaked out."

He is scheduled to appear in court Aug. 23.
