A professor in Southern California accused of leading a motorcycle gang and methamphetamine sales ring has pleaded not guilty.

Steve Kinzey teaches kinesiology at California State University, San Bernardino. He is charged with several counts, including possession of a controlled substance for sale, street terrorism and conspiracy.

Authorities say he is the president of the local chapter of the Devils Diciples motorcycle club.

Kinzey was considered a fugitive when charges were filed against him this month, but he avoided arrest by having a bondsman post his bond.

His father testified Friday that he provided a portion the $300,000 bond and that the money was not associated with his son.

A judge set an Oct. 27 hearing to consider prosecutors' request to raise Kinzey's bond to $425,000.
