Authorities say a suspect has died and a Cleveland police officer has sustained non-life-threatening injuries in an overnight shooting.

Cleveland Police Chief Calvin Williams tells local media that a woman reported a domestic dispute late Tuesday night, indicating her male partner had a weapon and was threatening her and a landlord.

Responding officers encountered the man in a hallway of the home on the city's east side. Williams says that's when the man pulled out a gun and shots were exchanged between him and officers.

Williams says the man was struck by officers returning fire and died at the scene.

One officer was shot in his ballistic vest and is expected to recover.

No names have been released. Williams says there's footage of the incident and police continue to investigate.
