NEW YORK – A motorcyclist accused of touching off a bloody, caught-on-video confrontation between bikers and an SUV driver in New York City has pleaded guilty to assault and rioting.
Christopher Cruz is expecting a four-month jail sentence after pleading guilty Wednesday. Several other bikers are heading toward a trial. They include an undercover police detective.
Cruz' lawyer hasn't immediately returned a call seeking comment.
Police say the September 2013 encounter began when Cruz cut in front of the SUV and slowed down on Manhattan's West Side Highway.
The SUV bumped the bike. Motorcyclists converged on the vehicle. The driver fled and ran over a biker, who was paralyzed.
Other motorcyclists chased down the SUV, pulled out the driver and attacked him. He needed stitches to his face. He wasn't criminally charged.
