ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A defense attorney says there will likely be a delay in a hearing on whether a teenage girl should be tried as an adult on charges of conspiring with her soldier boyfriend to have her mother killed.
Fourteen-year-old Jamie Silvonek and 21-year-old Army Spec. Caleb Barnes were arraigned separately Wednesday in the March stabbing death of 54-year-old Cheryl Silvonek. The woman was killed in the driveway of her home near Allentown.
The teenager was initially charged as a juvenile, but later charged as an adult after prosecutors said they found text messages detailing her role.
A hearing was scheduled next month on defense attorney John Waldron's bid to move the case back to juvenile court, but Waldron said he doesn't expect to have experts' reports by then.
Prosecutors haven't said whether they will seek the death penalty against Barnes.
