2 girls drown while nanny chats on phone, dad claims

Two 5-year-old girls drowned in a Georgia backyard swimming pool while the nanny watching them chatted on the phone, the father of one of the girls claims.

WSBTV reports Eduardo Juarez' daughter Sophia was found dead Sunday in the swimming pool of the family's home along with Mia Penoyer, the granddaughter of the family's live-in housekeeper and nanny.

Juarez says he holds the nanny, who has not been named, "100 percent responsible" for the death of his daughter.

"At this point, there is nothing that will bring my daughter back to me, but I believe the law has to be enforced and that she (the babysitter) has to be held accountable for her actions,” Juarez told WSBTV.

Juarez says he left his daughter with the nanny for less than an hour while he went to go buy lunch. During that time the nanny was on the phone for approximately 45 minutes, WSBTV reports.

Sgt. Bill Gorman tells WSBTV the family's 10-year-old son found the girls in the pool after a frantic search. Juarez says he believes Sophia may have been trying to save Mia after she fell in, because his daughter knew how to swim.

The nanny has been charged with misdemeanor reckless conduct.
