Dundee United needed an 89th-minute goal from Michael Gardyne to salvage a 1-1 draw against 10-man Dundee at Tannadice Park on Sunday.

The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 20th minute when Gary Irvine received a red card for elbowing United's Richie Ryan, and Gary Mackay-Steven came close to putting United ahead when his header came back off the crossbar in the 31st minute.

But it was Dundee that took the lead in the 67th with a nice individual effort from Ryan Conroy, who lashed a left-footed shot high into the net past goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak.

Gardyne came off the bench shortly after the goal for United, and he saved his team's blushes in the 89th minute when Jon Daly nodded a ball down for him to finish at the back post.
