NEW YORK (Reuters) - Explosive running back Chris Johnson ended his protracted holdout on Thursday by agreeing to a four-year contract extension with the Tennessee Titans, the National Football League (NFL) team said.
Financial terms of the contract were not disclosed but The Tennessean newspaper estimated Johnson's deal to be worth $53.5 million of which $30 million is guaranteed.
The 25-year-old, who has logged more rushing yards than any other player in the NFL over the past three seasons, had refused to report to the Titans until he got a new contract.
A first-round pick in the 2007 NFL draft, Johnson has been one of the league's most effective impact players and was a Pro Bowl starter in his first three seasons.
In 2009, he became only the sixth player to rush for over 2,000 yards in an NFL season.
Johnson had two years left on his previous contract with the Titans and was scheduled to make $800,000 this season.
