Stafford leaves game with leg injury

Nashville, TN – Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford left Sunday's 44-41 loss to Tennessee with a strained muscle in his right leg.

Late in the fourth quarter, Tennessee's Alterraun Verner stripped the ball out of the hands of Lions tight end Brandon Pettigrew and took the ball 72 yards the other way for a score and a 41-27 lead with 1:16 left.

Stafford tried to run down Verner, but started limping and went to the sideline.

"He had a muscle pull, or a leg pull, a hamstring pull," said Detroit head coach Jim Schwartz. "It started bothering him during the game and it got to the point where we had to go with Shaun (Hill)."

Stafford sat out as Hill guided the Lions on two touchdown drives to tie the game, but the Lions fell in overtime.

Stafford has thrown for 863 yards and three touchdowns along with four interceptions on the season.
