The Baltimore Ravens signed Visanthe Shiancoe to a one-year contract on Sunday, less than 24 hours after tight end Dennis Pitta suffered a potential season-ending hip injury.

Shiancoe, 33, saw limited action for the New England Patriots last year but recorded 2,677 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns over nine seasons with the New York Giants (2003-06) and Minnesota Vikings (2007-11).

Shiancoe was on the practice field Sunday, where one day before Pitta collided with safety James Ihedigbo and disclosed his hip.

"If it turns out that I am out for the season, I have confidence for other teammates to step up and do their part. Keep the faith!" Pitta said on his Facebook account Sunday.
