Arlington, TX – The Texas Rangers have acquired outfielder Alex Rios and cash considerations from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Rios batted .277 with 12 home runs, 22 doubles, 26 stolen bases and 55 RBI in 109 games for the White Sox this season.
The 32-year-old Rios has a career batting average of .278 with 311 doubles, 155 homers, 211 stolen bases and 682 RBI over 1,408 games with Toronto (2004-09) and Chicago (2009-13). He was an All-Star in 2006 and 2007.
Rios is one of four active players with at least 300 doubles, 50 triples, 150 home runs and 200 stolen bases in their career, joining Carlos Beltran, Derek Jeter, and Jimmy Rollins.
The White Sox filled the roster spot by recalling outfielder Avasail Garcia from Triple-A Charlotte. Garcia was acquired as part of a three-team trade with Boston and Detroit on July 30 in which White Sox starting pitcher Jake Peavy was dealt to the Red Sox.
