PSV missed a golden opportunity to place AZ Alkmaar as it was held to a 1-1 draw by Utrecht at the Stadion Galgenwaard on Sunday.

With AZ Alkmaar playing to a 1-1 draw with Ajax earlier in the day, PSV could have moved into first place with a win in Utrecht.

But instead, PSV surrendered the lead in the second half only to battle back and salvage to point to maintain pace with AZ Alkmaar at the top of the table.

Stefano Lilipaly put Utrecht in front in the 67th minute, but Ola Toivonen equalized just four minutes later.

Ajax was fortunate to come away from the AFAS Stadion with a draw. AZ Alkmaar went in front thanks to a 37th-minute goal from Rasmus Elm, but an own goal from Simon Poulsen in the 75th minute gifted Ajax a point.

AZ Alkmaar remains in first place in the Eredivisie with 39 points, followed closely by PSV on 38 points, Twente on 36 points, and Ajax on 34 points.

Elsewhere in Eredivisie action on Sunday, NEC edged Vitesse with a 1-0 win, Groningen topped Heracles 2-1, and Feyenoord fell to Venlo 2-1.
