The Portland Timbers announced on Friday that defender Mikael Silvestre suffered a torn ACL in the second half of the team's 0-0 draw with the New England Revolution on Thursday.

The injury is expected to keep Silvestre out for 6-9 months after he undergoes surgery, likely bringing an early end to the Frenchman's first season in Portland.

Silvestre, 35, started eight of Portland's first nine matches this term, playing nearly 700 minutes and helping the team to three clean sheets.

He also took part in every minute of the Timbers' recent 312-minute shutout streak.
