The Philadelphia Phillies signed year contract Thursday.

Nix spent last season with the Washington Nationals, carrying a .250 average with 15 doubles, 44 RBI and a career-high 16 home runs in 124 games.

A nine-year veteran with Texas, Milwaukee, Cincinnati and Washington, Nix is a career .244 hitter with 96 doubles, 64 home runs and 226 runs batted in through 607 games.

"We got to see Laynce a lot this year with Washington and he is someone we had our eye on going into the offseason," Phillies senior vice president and general manager Ruben Amaro said. "He will provide us with extra power off the bench from the left side and can play all three outfield positions."
