Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Phillies activated right- hander Roy Halladay from the 60-day disabled list and named him the starter for Sunday's finale of a three-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Halladay, who is recovering from right shoulder surgery, was expected to make a third rehab start at Double-A Reading on Sunday, but was pressed into duty after Sunday's scheduled starter Tyler Cloyd tossed five innings of relief in Saturday's 18-inning loss.
Halladay hasn't pitched in the majors since May 5, when he was tagged for nine runs on four hits and four walks in just 2 1/3 innings of work in a 14-2 loss to Miami.
The 36-year-old veteran underwent right shoulder surgery 11 days later and has allowed five runs -- four earned -- on 13 hits and six walks over a pair of six-inning starts with the Gulf Coast League Phillies and Single-A Lakewood.
In seven starts at the major league level this season, Halladay has posted a 2-4 record with a 8.65 earned run average.
Also on Sunday, the Phillies selected the contract of pitcher J.C. Ramirez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley and optioned Cloyd and pitcher Luis Garcia to Lehigh Valley while transferring pitchers Jonathan Pettibone and Michael Stutes from the 15-day DL to the 60-day DL.
Ramirez has appeared in 11 games with the Phillies during his rookie campaign this season, posting an 0-1 record with a 7.43 ERA.
Cloyd owns a 2-3 record and a 3.57 ERA over eight games (seven starts) this season, while Garcia has compiled an 0-1 mark with a 5.59 ERA over 17 contests in his rookie season.
Pettibone is dealing with a right shoulder strain, while Stutes is shelved with right biceps tendinitis.
