Orioles put Johnson on DL with sprained wrist

Baltimore, MD – The Baltimore Orioles put designated hitter Nick Johnson on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a sprained right wrist and recalled infielder Xavier Avery from Triple-A Norfolk.

Johnson, who is batting .207 this season with four homers, 11 RBI and a .324 on-base percentage, left Wednesday night's game against the Angels because of the injury.

Avery hit .217 in a 15-game stint with the Orioles from May 13-28.
