Atlanta, GA – Washington Nationals rookie pitcher Taylor Jordan was placed on the 15-day disabled Saturday, less than 24 hours after throwing six solid innings in a no-decision against the Atlanta Braves.
The Nationals officially termed Jordan's injury as a lower back strain, though the move may have been influenced by rest purposes as well. The 23-year-old has thrown 142 innings while splitting time between the minors and majors this year, and the team has previously stated it was planning on shutting down Jordan, who missed the entire 2012 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Jordan has made nine starts for the Nationals and posted a respectable 3.66 earned run average despite a 1-3 record. He held the Braves to two unearned runs while walking three on Friday.
Outfielder/first baseman Tyler Moore was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to fill the available roster spot. The 26-year-old batted .318 with 10 home runs and 46 RBI in 45 games with the Chiefs after being sent to the minors in early July.
Moore hit just .151 with three homers and 14 RBI in 42 games with the Nationals prior to being demoted, and is a .218 hitter with 13 homers in 262 career major-league at-bats.
