Marlins send Brantly to Triple-A

The Miami Marlins have optioned Rob Brantly, the team's Opening Day catcher, to Triple-A New Orleans prior to Friday's game against the Atlanta Braves.

Brantly has started 56 of the Marlins' 113 games behind the plate this season, but has gone just 2-for-22 since the All-Star break and recently lost playing time in favor of Jeff Mathis.

For the season, the 24-year-old is batting .225 with one homer and 18 RBI.

The Marlins purchased the contract of veteran catcher Koyie Hill from New Orleans in a corresponding move, with the journeyman slated to back up Mathis for the time being.

Hill, a .210 hitter with eight home runs over parts of nine major league seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Arizona and the Chicago Cubs, was batting .237 with one homer and 14 RBI over 60 games with the Zephyrs.
