Real Madrid has signed forward Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City on loan until the end of the season.

The Spanish club announced the deal Tuesday on its website, saying it has a unilateral option to purchase the 26-year-old from Togo during the offseason.

Adebayor has not been used often this season at the Premier League club.

Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is desperate to bolster his attack after losing Gonzalo Higuain to back surgery. Karim Benzema, Madrid's only healthy forward, has just two league goals this season.
