Bridgeview, IL – The Chicago Fire signed Italian goalkeeper Paolo Tornaghi on Thursday.
The 23-year-old Tornaghi is a former Inter Milan youth player and has played for Italy at the youth levels. He spent most of his time with Inter on loan at lower-division clubs in Italy.
"Paolo has come in, performed at a high level and worked to earn a roster spot with us this preseason," Fire coach Frank Klopas said.
"Paolo has a lot of potential for growth in this league. He is a talented kid who will push Sean Johnson and Jay Nolly in each training session."
Tornaghi will be added to the club's roster upon receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P1 Visa.
Chicago does not play this weekend when Major League Soccer kicks off its 2012 season. The Fire will open their season at the expansion Montreal Impact on March 17.
