Bilbao's Martinez fractures shin bone

Bilbao, Spain – Athletic Bilbao midfielder Igor Martinez suffered a fractured shin bone Wednesday and could be sidelined up to six weeks.

Martinez was taken off with the injury in the 71st minute of Wednesday's 1-0 loss to Malaga. Bilbao, which previously lost midfielder Ander Herrera for five weeks, has just one point from four La Liga matches.

The 22-year-old Martinez will miss next week's Europa League match against PSG and likely matches against Red Bull Salzburg on Oct. 10 and Nov. 3. Bilbao won its Europa opener against Slovan Bratislava, 2-1, in Group F.
