AP source: John Terry out with knee injury

LONDON – A person familiar with the situation says Chelsea captain John Terry will be sidelined for several weeks with a knee injury, ruling him out of England's exhibition against the Netherlands next week.

Terry trained Monday on the eve of Chelsea's Champions League match against Napoli, but the person says the club has decided he now needs a procedure on his right knee. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the extent of the injury is not being discussed publicly.

The injury saves interim England coach Stuart Pearce from having to decide whether to select both Terry and Rio Ferdinand for his roster.

Terry was stripped of the England captaincy this month due to his upcoming trial for allegedly racially abusing Ferdinand's brother, Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.
