Mallorca announced Wednesday that it has signed defender Antonio Lopez on a two-year deal following his release from Atletico Madrid.

Lopez, who began his career by route of the Atletico youth system, went on to make 214 appearances for Los Rojiblancos. The 30-year-old revealed that he opted to join Mallorca despite having several options on the table.

"It's true that I had several options, but I think I have chosen the best due to the project being carried out by the coach [Joaquin Caparros] and [owner] Serra Ferrer," said Lopez. "The word that describes how I feel is excitement, of taking on a new season with new teammates, a new coach and of trying to better myself."
