Celebrities seem to be getting Botox younger and younger — Scheana Shay, reality TV personality on Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules, admitted to starting Botox treatments at age 25, and the Bachelor’s Ashley Iaconetti described on her blog how she started using Botox at age 26.

And the trend is catching on: Lauren Hamilton, a 28-year-old blogger and freelance communications strategist, told Fox News that she first started getting Botox at age 26, after seeing the results her older sister was seeing from the treatment. She started visiting a dermatologist about three times a year, spending about $200-$250 for each session (price varies based on location, doctor, and how much Botox is given).

“I’m much more confident and comfortable,” said Hamilton, adding that Botox gives her a smoother look, especially in photographs, and makes her feel secure that when she smiles and laughs, she is not increasing the fine lines on her face.

The concept has been around for a while, Dr. Shilpi Khetarpal, a cosmetic dermatologist at Cleveland Clinic, told Fox News. If you get Botox at the first sign of aging, she said you can actually prevent the formation of etch lines that occur from facial expressions, whether that’s crow’s feet, frown lines, or horizontal forehead lines. That’s because Botox relaxes the muscle and prevents you from making certain expressions, which would contribute to those lines.

However, not all doctors agree: Dr. Houtan Chaboki, a board-certified facial plastic surgeon in Washington, D.C., told Fox News that “people should get Botox to make them look their best now and for the duration of its effect, which is about three months,” and that we don’t yet have scientific evidence that Botox can actually prevent wrinkles.

IS COLLAGEN REALLY AN ANTI-AGING CURE-ALL?

If you’re unsure about trying the trend yourself, luckily, there are other steps you can take to reduce wrinkles at any age:

1. Sunscreen
Wear a daily sunscreen of at least SPF 30, said Khetarpal, noting that many moisturizers have a daily SPF built in.

2. Topical retinoid
Products with a Vitamin A derivative, like Retinol or Retin-A (the prescription strength version of Retinol), can help stimulate collagen growth, Khetarpal said.

3. Antioxidants
Similarly, antioxidant serums with ingredients like Vitamin C, Vitamin E, and ferulic acid can help protect against the molecules — free radicals — that break down collagen in the skin, Khetarpal said.

4. Quitting smoking
Smoking can cause aging and wrinkling, Dr. Mary Stevenson, an assistant professor in the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at NYU Langone Medical Center, told Fox News.

5. Posture
Your neck is also at risk for fine lines and wrinkles, but maintaining good posture by standing and sitting up straight can help prevent that, Stevenson said.
