The Vespa buzz could soon become a whine.

The Italian scooter company has announced plans to introduce its first electric model next year.

The Elettrica concept unveiled at the Milan Motorcycle Show this week offers a sneak peak of the upcoming battery-powered bike, which features the brand’s classic styling done up in a futuristic silver and blue livery for effect.

As for what drives it, or how far and fast it can go, Vespa isn’t saying, just yet. In fact, its statement that it “is assessing the most advanced players in the sector” suggests it’s not quite sure.

The price is also unknown, but the company’s current model range -- all powered by those iconic, revvy single-cylinder engines with their signature exhaust note -- runs from around $3,500 to $7,500.
