Buick has announced plans to introduce a new compact crossover called the Encore at the upcoming  Detroit Auto Show.

Details have not been revealed, but the automaker promises that the five-passenger crossover will come with the same level of refinement and amenities as the other vehicles in its lineup.

A cropped photo of the front of the vehicle shows that it has what appears to be projector-beam headlights, parking sensors in the front bumpers, Buick's signature grille treatment and -- no surprise -- vents in the hood.

The Encore is rumored to be built on the same platform as the Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, which have proven to be so popular that General Motors plans to start building it at a second assembly plant in Tennessee to supplement production at its factory in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada.

Buick has not yet said where the Encore will be built. More photos will be released prior to its unveiling in January.
