WASHINGTON – The Trump administration says it's preparing to lay out its plan to work with Europeans and other countries to pressure Iran following President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the nuclear deal.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will unveil the strategy Monday during a speech at the conservative Heritage Foundation.
The plan comes as European members of the deal are furious with Trump for unilaterally exiting the deal. The Europeans are vowing to protect their businesses from re-imposed U.S. sanctions and have expressed little interest in rushing to help Washington strike a new deal with Iran.
But State Department policy chief Brian Hook says the U.S. and Europe agree more than they disagree. He says the U.S. sees "an opportunity" to expand cooperation with nations that share U.S. concerns about Iran's behavior.
